I need help!
For most students studying chemistry, it is usually not a matter of if they will need help, but when, and how often. Should you find yourself completely lost, you should not feel bad because this is common. However, you cannot afford to wait too long if you entertain serious hopes of passing this course. The following is a partial list of the places you can turn for help.
- The Student Resource Center (SRC) in SI 290: peer tutors, students who have taken these classes previously and who are available to answer your questions.
- Pros: the service is free
- Cons: limited hours - schedule posted weekly on SI 290 door; the room can get pretty busy; you may wind up waiting and/or you may not get personal attention; some tutors are better than others but some of these peer tutors are excellent!
- The Learning Center in TB 213: tutors hired by SLCC to help Chemistry students
- Pros: generally more experienced than the tutors in the SRC
- Cons: limited hours; only 1 at a given time; you may wind up waiting and/or you may not get personal attention.
- Personal tutor: a list of tutors is available in the Learning Center in TB 213. You must request it from the person manning the front desk.
- Pros: generally high quality; personal attention; meet with you at your convenience
- Cons: plan on paying at least $10-$20/ hour for personal tutoring services.
- Your instructor
- Pros: quality instruction at no cost; personal attention
- Cons: limited availability
