► Activities Look for us on Facebook for the latest information on Club activities! Become a fan of "Salt Lake Community College American Chemical Society Student Affiliates." Speaker: Dr. Wayne Samuelson, the University of Utah Medical School's Associate Dean of Admissions will speak at SLCC on April 28th. There will be a lunch at 12:00 and he will speak at 12:30-1:30 in the Student Center rooms 221-223. Weekly ACS-SA meetings: Wednesdays at 12 pm, SI 290. PILS meetings: every other Monday, starting on January 22nd, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in SI 290. Congratulations! to Renee Petty for her award-winning job as IAC representative. Renee was recognized for her efforts at the SLCC Clubs banquet on April 15th. Kennecott Refinery Tour: We are thinking about putting together a tour of the Kennecott refinery. If you are interested in touring the refinery please let Bre know ASAP so we can get a feel for how many people are interested. We have to get a pretty good group together in order to make it happen. Annual ACS Golf Activity: has been rescheduled (again) to Friday April 16th at 1 PM and Friday April 23rd at 1 PM. There are two days because we'd like to give those who went on the Uintah Brewery tour a chance to play as well-on the 23rd. To be held at Fore Lakes golf course: 1258 West 4700 South. End-of-semester party: Thursday, May 6th at 6PM in Murray Park. Please RSVP to Bre as soon as you know if you can attend, so we can get an idea of how many will be there. There will be food there and most likely a small portion of it will be potluck, but I will let you know further details. Here are a few photos. Moab mini-vacation: May 21-23. We are renting out campsites, but bathroom facilities are available at the sites. The cost is $7 per night, per campsite. We're thinking that we can fit 2-3 tents on each site, so the cost of camping would be super cheap. The other costs would be food and activity costs. If you happen to sell 3 or more of the online discount cards (Nobrainerdiscounts.com) your campsite will be paid for by the ACS. If you would like to join us down in Moab, please let Bre know right away if you can attend, so we can accommodate accordingly. I will keep you all posted on further details, such as costs, and travel arrangements. ► Service Projects Annual Vial Drive: PILS has started their annual vial drive for the 4th street clinic downtown. They are collecting UNUSED pill vials AND lids. For more information on the deadline and drop offs, please contact Ian Borovatz (ianborovatz@gmail.com) or Renee Petty (renee.petty@gmail.com). Festival of Trees 2010: This is an annual service project, so we collect items all year long. We're looking for autographed sports memorabilia for our tree. Some faculty are offering extra credit for participation.
Here are photos of our chemical demonstrations at St. Francis School in 2005. ►Spring Fund Raising: No-Brainer Cards: NoBrainer is a discount card to multiple businesses that is purchased online for $30.
It’s easy!! Have your friends and family go to http://www.nobrainerdiscounts.com/ Business cards with the website and contact info will be available to pick up and give to customers in the SRC (SI 359 B). It is highly recommended that you write your names on these cards so your customers know who to sponsor on the website. Available through the end of April. ► Research The objective is to develop and execute projects to take to the National ACS spring convention, which will be held March 27-31, 2011 in Anaheim, California. Weekly research meetings will be held on Wednesdays at 12 p.m. in SI 290. Participating students have the opportunity of traveling to the meeting, presenting research results in a poster session, and citing these publications on their resume. See the photos below from our previous trips.
